How it works

Worth showing whoever you are giving it to — it is four steps, and about four minutes from cold water to a finished shot.

1. Fill the reservoir — about 50 ml for a single shot.

2. Dose the basket with fine ground coffee, or fit the capsule adapter.

3. Twist the brew head shut until it seats.

4. Invert it over a cup and hold the button. It heats, then extracts.

How big it actually is

Worth setting expectations if this is a present. It is portable, but it is not pocket-sized — at just under 700 g it is closer to a full vacuum flask than to a gadget.

Using it outdoors

Cold water and cold air both slow the heat-up. In winter conditions, filling with warm water from a flask gets you a shot far faster than starting from cold — and uses much less battery, which is what actually limits you on a long trip.

Travelling with it

This machine has a built-in lithium battery. Airlines require lithium batteries to travel in carry-on baggage only — never in checked luggage — and the device must not be operated in flight. Rules vary by carrier and route, so check your airline before you fly. Worth mentioning to whoever you are giving it to.

Care

Rinse the brew head and basket after each use and dry them before packing back into the case. Do not immerse the body, which holds the battery and heating element, and keep it out of the dishwasher.
