How it works

Four steps, about four minutes from cold water to a finished shot.

Pouring water into the reservoir
1. Fill the reservoir — about 50 ml for a single shot.
Dosing ground coffee into the filter basket
2. Dose the basket with fine ground coffee, or drop in a capsule.

3. Twist the brew head shut until it seats.

4. Invert it over a cup and hold the button. It heats, then extracts.

How big it actually is

It is a genuinely portable machine, but it is not small in the way a phone is small. At 670 g it sits closer to a full vacuum flask than to a gadget — which is worth knowing before it goes into a day bag.

Using ground coffee

Espresso wants a fine, even grind. Too coarse and the water runs straight through weak; too fine and the pump struggles. If you are grinding fresh, start slightly coarser than you would for a pump machine at home and adjust from there — a portable unit has less headroom than a mains one.

Travelling with it

This machine has a built-in lithium battery. Airlines require lithium batteries to travel in carry-on baggage only — never in checked luggage — and the device must not be operated in flight. Rules vary by carrier and route, so check your airline before you fly. Some countries also restrict lithium batteries in post.

Care

Rinse the brew head and basket after each use and let them dry before packing — damp grounds left in the head are what cause bitterness and blockages. Do not immerse the body, which contains the battery and heating element, and do not put any part of it in a dishwasher. Descale periodically if you are in a hard-water area.
